What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
Psychologists receive a 4 year post-graduate degree from graduate school.  This degree is called a Ph.D.  They usually follow that with a one year internship.  They become expert in clinical skills, psychotherapy research, and teaching.  They are highly trained in listening, guiding, offering support, and teaching coping skills for those who suffer with anxiety, depression, psychosis, drug addiction, and multiple personalities.
A psychiatrist goes to medical school, earns a 4 year degree in medicine and specializes in diagnosing psychiatric illness (psychosis) and prescribing drugs.
Psychologists treat patients with therapy and counseling; psychiatrists treats patients with medication.
