What is the length of therapy?
This question is best answered by asking, “What do you want out of therapy and out of your life?”  Some people choose to come to therapy for only one visit in order to clarify problems and make a fast decision.  Others who are in a crisis and need symptom relief from anxiety will finish therapy in a few sessions.  Those interested in longer goals of crisis intervention, or help with job, mental or drug problems can expect to work in therapy for at least 6 months.  Longer treatments can help change deep rooted personality problems and ways of relating to others.  This can take longer as we explore your manner of relating to the therapist and how that relates to your past and present problems.  So, the length of therapy is dependent both upon the seriousness of your problems and the goals you have for yourself.
